How to avoid getting .RSV files
Most .RSV files come from a handful of causes. A few habits prevent nearly all of them.
- Power: start long takes on a full battery, or use a dummy battery or USB-C power. Swap batteries between takes, never during one.
- Cards: use cards rated for your codec (for example V60/V90 SD or CFexpress Type A for high bit rates), and check how many minutes remain before long recordings.
- Heat: on bodies that offer it, set the automatic power-off temperature to High, keep the screen away from the body, and keep the camera out of direct sun.
- Stopping: always stop recording before switching off, and never remove the card while the access light is on.
- Back up straight away: copy cards after every shoot, so a single failure never costs you the only copy.
If it happens anyway, don’t format the card. Follow how to recover a Sony .RSV file.
