Sony .RSV file shows 0 bytes
A .RSV that shows 0 bytes is the hardest case. Here’s what it means and what you can still try.
What 0 bytes means
The file’s entry on the card exists, but the card’s file table doesn’t link any data to it. The camera stopped before it recorded where the clip’s data was. No repair tool can rebuild a clip from an empty file, RSV Rescue included, and our preview will tell you so straight away for free.
What you can still try
- Stop using the card and don’t format it.
- Put it back in the same camera with a charged battery and switch on. Some Sony cameras try to restore an interrupted clip themselves.
- Check you copied it correctly. Look at the file on the card itself, not a copy. If it shows a size there, copy it again and use that copy.
- Try a card-recovery tool that scans the whole card for video data (data carving). It may find the clip’s data even though the file is empty. If it gives you a large file back, you can then try that file on rsvrescue.com.
